Keep a long novel consistent across chapters

Organize story facts and distinguish saved records from the limited context used for each AI request.

Updated

1. Keep a current source of truth

Record stable facts in your project: character goals and relationships, world rules and important items. Keep uncertain ideas separate from confirmed decisions. If a character loses a key in chapter three, update the relevant record before drafting chapter four. A useful record states the fact, when it changed and which scene established it.

2. Prepare context for the next scene

Use an outline entry and a concise recap of the preceding scene. List unresolved promises and facts the next chapter must respect. InStory plans context for generation stages, using relevant project information and compressed context where needed. This does not mean that every earlier word is included in every request; available context depends on the model and workflow.

3. Review memory and correct drift

The memory system distinguishes user preferences from project decisions and reminders. When plans change, correct outdated information rather than adding a conflicting instruction. After generation, compare the scene with your records and the source chapters. Summaries and memory can omit detail or preserve a mistaken interpretation, so human checks remain necessary.
