1. Define the story contract
Create a novel project from the dashboard. Record the genre, setting, central conflict and intended scope. A useful premise names a protagonist, a goal and an obstacle: “A harbor archivist must recover a missing tide chart before an evacuation, while her former mentor conceals its origin.” Treat this as an instruction for the story, not a finished synopsis.
2. Review the outline before expansion
Use the outline workflow to develop the premise, world and characters. Check whether each turning point follows from a character decision. Revise vague entries into events with consequences: instead of “the search continues,” specify “the archivist trades her access permit for a lead and loses entry to the archive.” Confirm these decisions before requesting chapter drafts.
3. Draft a small section and evaluate it
Begin with one chapter or a short range. Check point of view, motivation, pacing and facts against the approved outline. Save useful revisions in the project before moving on. Full-book generation has separate outline and chapter stages; a completed task means the generation finished, not that the manuscript is publication-ready. Model output still needs editorial review.
